Mayan Spirit 'Future Expat' Tour is organized by a team of multinational expats in
San Cristóbal de Las Casas, Chiapas,
México - a small, 16th century mountain citadel, and crossroads of the ancient
Mayan world.
During these turbulent times, many people are looking for lifestyle alternatives to their
dysfunctional cities and economies:- small, safe places where they may live healthy, sane lives in a community spirit.
In this heartland of the ancient Mundo Maya, friendly mountains and woolly black sheep, traditional Mayan medicines, colorful handcrafts and organic cottage industries blend with sophisticated political
sensibilities and wireless networks.
Museums, art galleries and theater are very active and well patronized by the rich mix of cultures which inhabit or pass through San Cristobal.
With spectacular world class scenery enjoyed by adventure sports enthusiasts, rich and fertile fields with high sunshine and rainfall, Chiapas is teeming with natural wealth - amber, fossils, petroleum, cobalt, and many hundreds of botanical plants are found in protected rainforests. It is also home to wild horses and boar, howler monkeys, jaguars - and the many streams
deliver delicious snapper and other sweet water river fish.
Poised above the tropical lowlands of Palenque at 7000 feet, San Cristobal is a "sweet spot" - a brilliant cornucopia of both temperate and tropical foods and flora.
This is a foodie's paradise. Cafes serve fresh European cakes, gourmet tamales, Mayan coffee and chocolate, medicinal and digestive teas, and everything in between.
The local markets overflow with strawberries, radishes, jasmine, lilies, blackberries & root vegetables mingling with orchids, mango, papaya, guayabaya, bananas, and an extensive array of exotic herbs & spices.
Organic farming, organized resistance to genetically modified seeds, permaculture techniques and low impact agriculture are the contemporary hallmarks of this region. The emphasis is upon preventative health and natural medicine. For unexpected or major medical issues, health insurance for Mexico is relatively inexpensive, as is dentistry.
Incredibly, the mountain air is clean, the water pure and drinkable, and houses are cheap to buy. Moreover, despite the area's delicate political balance, it is reasonably safe and secure, with low crime.
However, making a radical move to another country, especially Mexico, is fraught wth uncertainties and needs to be researched well.
We have put tgether the leading expats in our community to offer this comprehensive introduction to living in Mexico, particularly San Cristobal.
A range of seminars on starting a business, buying real estate, legalities & formalites, language, permaculture, organic seeds and alternative living will be held over one week - and any questions you have, answered definitively and thoroughly.
Additionally, we include guided tours of San Cristobal and the nearby townships of Chamula, Zinacantan and Oventik, a Zapatista community. We also visit the Mayan Medicine Museum, Na Bolom, Taller Lenateros and other community projects.
The tour is for 8 days /7 nights, and is all-inclusive, with course notes.
